children as researchers
project example:
Learning softly / 5 and 6 year olds research SOFTNESS as a quality of the living world and as a way of knowing. Conventional aspects of research (looking closely, hypothesising, gathering evidence, building theories) combined experimentally with learning through touch, taking slow time, and understanding through metaphor and analogy.
project example:
Electricity / An atelier collection of old electronics begins long-term research into ‘sparks, currents, circuits and flow’. Learning through a desire to connect materials, make things that work, and investigate as part of a learning collective. An unexpected understanding emerges that research can come from and express love.
