place and story
project example:
The mouse house / What is a home? How can we feel ‘at home’ at school? What places matter to us? How does time feel there?
This project documentation takes the form of a book in which 5 and 6 year old children’s words and creations sit side by side to invite the reader into The Mouse House - a world of creative invention, love, slow time, acceptance and surprise. The project recognises children’s rights to alter and give importance to places within a classroom. It was also a test of how to combine emergent project development with Primary Years Programme ‘units of inquiry’ (Where we are in place and time’).
project example:
Ways into Hinchingbrooke Country Park / Young children are inexhaustible and profound explorers of the world, but the dominant voices that explain the landscape around us are adult. This publication was the first in a series of guides that aimed to reposition children’s voices in our public interpretations of place. It documents the real and fantastical journeys, the stories and speculations of a class of 4 and 5 year olds in the woods and fields of Hinchingbrooke Country Park, UK.
